Every day brings new and exciting hands-on learning opportunities for Grade 11 students in the STICS program at Cobourg Collegiate Institute (CCI), thanks to Construction Teacher Daniel Batty, who brings experiential learning to life on the job site, rain or shine!聽

The Skilled Trades Internship in Construction Systems (STICS) Program, taught by Mr. Batty, provides a unique opportunity for students to expand their learning beyond the classroom setting at a local construction site. Students use a variety of materials, processes, tools, and equipment to design, layout, and build construction projects, and develop a diverse set of skills in carpentry, masonry, electrical systems, heating and cooling, and plumbing!聽

Daniel brings a strong passion for the construction trade and supports hands-on learning opportunities for students in the program. He plays an important role in driving the success of the program, leveraging connections with industry partners such as Stalwood Homes, to enhance student learning. In the past, students have also had the opportunity to contribute positively within the community by completing interior framing work for Habitat for Humanity.聽聽

Through Daniel鈥檚 leadership, students gain real world experience, develop technical knowledge and skills in residential construction and explore possible career opportunities while also getting their foot in the door with community partners.聽

鈥淚 enjoy getting the chance to expose students to something they鈥檝e never done before. Seeing students engaged and interested in learning new skills is always a rewarding experience,鈥� shares Daniel.聽聽
