Land Acquisition and Build Approval Definitions
Definitions: Land Acquisition Process Ìý
Before we can build a school, we need land that’s safe, suitable, and approved.   Ìý
These steps do not always happen in a set order. Some steps occur simultaneously, while others may be dependent on each other or need to wait for third-party approvals.Ìý

| A. Site SelectedÌý | The school board identifies the preferred site.Ìý | 
| B. Plan Registered/Conveyable Lot CreatedÌý | Through the Land Registry Office, this process officially creates new, legally recognized parcels of land which the Board would be able to purchase. | 
| C. ZoningÌý | The land must be appropriately zoned for school use (municipal process).Ìý | 
| D. Signed Purchase and Sale AgreementÌý | The board and landowner agree on a sale, pending conditions.Ìý | 
| E. Land Acquisition Due DiligenceÌý | May include, but not limited to environmental assessments, soil testing, and servicing evaluations are completed.Ìý | 
| F. Land Funding Request Submitted to Ministry of EducationÌý | The board applies for funding from the Ministry of Education to buy the land.Ìý | 
| G. Land Funding Granted by Ministry of EducationÌý | The Ministry approves funding to complete the purchase.Ìý | 
| H. Purchase and Sale Agreement (PSA) SignedÌý | All sale conditions are fulfilled, and the land becomes board property.Ìý | 
Definitions: Build Approval ProcessÌý
While the land is being secured, the detailed design and construction planning process can begin, while other steps need to wait until the Land Acquisition Process is completed.Ìý
These steps generally happen in order and require Ministry approval at key milestones.ÌýÌý

| 4. Municipal Site Plan ApprovalÌýÌý | A technical review process where local government ensures that the planÌýcomplies with local regulations and integrates well with its surroundings. | 
| 5. Preliminary Cost EvaluationÌýÌý | Early construction cost estimates are developed.Ìý | 
| 6. Ministry Approval to ProceedÌý | The Ministry reviews and approves the design and cost plan.Ìý | 
| 7. Building Permit IssuedÌý | Formal authorization from municipal government that allows construction to happen. | 
| 8. Tender for ContractorÌý | The board posts a public tender to select a construction company.Ìý | 
| 9. Contractor SelectedÌý | A builder is chosen and construction timelines are finalized.Ìý |
