Regional School Councils
What is a School Council Association?
Regional School Council Associations act as advisory bodies to school councils and the Board, working to promote quality education for all students. The Regional Association is a forum for sharing information and best practices among school council chairpersons (or their designates) within each region and promotes the functioning of school councils by providing input and advice to the Board and Ministry of Education.
Membership of the Regional Association is made up of the chairperson and/or a designate from each school within the region. Each school council has a voice (and one vote) at the meetings. Representatives then share the outcomes of these regional meetings with their individual school councils.
Each Superintendency has its own school council association. There are three (3) Regional Associations within 91¶ÌÊÓƵ District School Board: Clarington Region, Northumberland Region, and Peterborough Region. Each Regional Association has its own constitution, which addresses governance issues and financial accountability, in addition to other procedural and structural elements.
